Modifier after noun
Adjectives follow the noun
Structure โครงสร้าง
- N + Adj (big house)
- N + Adj + มาก (very …)
- N + (CLF) + Adj + นี้ / นั้น
Usage การใช้
In Thai, adjectives and other modifiers follow the noun: คนอ้วน ‘a fat person’, บ้านใหญ่ ‘a big house’. Several modifiers line up after the noun, with demonstratives (นี้, นั้น) at the end. The same adjective can also stand alone as a predicate (TG029): บ้านใหญ่ can be ‘a big house’ or ‘The house is big.’
Examples ตัวอย่างประโยค
- เขาอยากได้บ้านใหญ่
He wants a big house. - ผมชอบอาหารเผ็ด
I like spicy food. - เสื้อสีแดงตัวนั้นสวยมาก
That red shirt is very pretty. - รถใหม่ของเขาแพงมาก
His new car is very expensive.
Subtle differences ข้อสังเกต
✗ Unnatural: ผมชอบใหญ่บ้าน
✓ Use instead: ผมชอบบ้านใหญ่ (I like big houses.)
Why: The adjective must follow the noun.
