“Oneself”; emphatic “myself”
Structure โครงสร้าง
- V + ตัวเอง (oneself, as object)
- S + เอง (oneself: emphasis, ‘by myself’)
- ตัวเอง (spoken, affectionate ‘you’)
Usage การใช้
ตัวเอง is the reflexive ‘myself / yourself / himself …’ when the self is the object of the verb: ดูแลตัวเอง ‘take care of yourself’.
เอง after the subject or verb means ‘oneself, personally, by oneself’ (TG239): ทำเอง ‘do it myself’.
Among couples or close friends, ตัวเอง can also be an affectionate ‘you’.
Examples ตัวอย่างประโยค
- ดูแลตัวเองนะ
Take care of yourself. - เขาชอบพูดถึงตัวเอง
He likes to talk about himself. - ผมทำเองทั้งหมด

Subtle differences ข้อสังเกต
✗ Unnatural: เขารักเอง (meaning ‘he loves himself’)
✓ Use instead: เขารักตัวเอง (He loves himself.)
Why: As an object, ‘oneself’ is ตัวเอง. เอง alone means ‘by oneself’.
