ของ
“Of, belonging to” (often omitted for family/body)
Structure โครงสร้าง
- N + ของ + owner (N of / belonging to …)
- N + owner (ของ dropped: close relationships, body parts)
- ของ + owner (… ’s one: ของผม = mine)
Usage การใช้
ของ means ‘of, belonging to’. The thing owned comes first, then ของ, then the owner: กระเป๋าของฉัน ‘my bag’ (literally ‘bag of me’).
ของ is often dropped for family members, body parts and close relationships: แม่ผม ‘my mother’, บ้านเขา ‘his house’. It is kept for emphasis or contrast, and when the owner stands alone: ของผม ‘mine’.
Examples ตัวอย่างประโยค
- กระเป๋าของฉัน
my bag - แม่ผมเป็นพยาบาล
My mother is a nurse. - นี่ของใคร — ของผมครับ
Whose is this? — It’s mine. - รถคันนี้ของบริษัท ไม่ใช่ของผม
This car belongs to the company, not to me.
Subtle differences ข้อสังเกต
The owner always comes after the thing owned.
✗ Unnatural: ผมของกระเป๋า
✓ Use instead: กระเป๋าของผม (my bag)
Why: Thai word order is ‘thing + ของ + owner’.
ของ is also a noun meaning ‘thing, stuff’: ซื้อของ ‘go shopping (buy things)’.
