นะ

Softens a statement or request; seeks agreement (“okay?”, “you know”)

Structure โครงสร้าง

  • statement / request + นะ (+ ครับ / คะ)
  • นะ at the start of a sentence: นะ … (pleading: ‘please’)

Usage การใช้

นะ softens what you say and invites the listener’s agreement, a bit like ‘okay?’, ‘you know’, or ‘…, alright?’. It makes requests, suggestions, reminders and statements sound warm rather than blunt.

It is one of the most common particles in everyday Thai. In polite speech it comes before ครับ / คะ: นะครับ, นะคะ.

Examples ตัวอย่างประโยค

  1. ไปก่อนนะ
    I’m heading off now, okay?
  2. อย่าลืมนะ
    Don’t forget, okay?
  3. ขอบคุณนะคะ
Thank you (so much). (female speaker, warm)
  4. อาหารร้านนี้อร่อยนะ
The food here is good, you know.

Subtle differences ข้อสังเกต

With a command, นะ turns it into a friendly reminder or request. Without it, some commands sound harsh: compare ปิดประตู ‘Shut the door.’ with ปิดประตูด้วยนะ ‘Close the door, okay?’

นะ vs น่ะ (TG110): นะ (high tone) seeks agreement, while น่ะ (falling tone) explains: ‘…, you see.’

Said with a long, rising voice (นะ ๆ, นะคะ), it becomes pleading: ไปด้วยกันนะ ๆ ‘Come with me, please, please!’
