จน / จนกว่า / จนกระทั่ง
“Until”; จน also “so…that”
Structure โครงสร้าง
- V + จน(ถึง) + time / event (until)
- V + จนกว่า + S + จะ + V (until … in the future)
- V + จนกระทั่ง + clause (until, narrative / formal)
- Adj / V + จน + result (so … that)
Usage การใช้
จน is the general ‘until’.
จนกว่า looks forward to a future event and is followed by S + จะ. It is common in instructions and promises: รอจนกว่าเขาจะมา.
จนกระทั่ง is formal or narrative and usually describes past events.
จน after an adjective or verb also means ‘so … that’: เหนื่อยจนหลับไป ‘so tired that he fell asleep’.
Examples ตัวอย่างประโยค
- รอจนกว่าเขาจะมา
Wait until he comes. - เขาทำงานจนดึก
He worked until late at night. - ฝนตกตั้งแต่เช้าจนกระทั่งเย็น
It rained from morning until evening. - เขาเหนื่อยจนหลับไป

Subtle differences ข้อสังเกต
- จนกว่า is used for a future limit and needs จะ: รอจนกว่าเขาจะมา. For past events, use จน or จนกระทั่ง: รอจนเขามา ‘waited until he came’.
- In a negative, จนกว่า means ‘not until’: ไม่ไปจนกว่าจะเสร็จ ‘I won’t go until it’s done.’
