ไป / มา (aspectual)
ไป = moving away / change ongoing; มา = up to now / toward speaker
Structure โครงสร้าง
- V / Adj + ไป (away from now: change, loss, ‘too’)
- V / Adj + มา (towards now: up to the present, has become)
- หายไป / ลืมไป / ตายไป (gone, forgotten, died)
Usage การใช้
After verbs and adjectives, ไป and มา describe direction in time, not just space. มา points towards the present: something that developed up to now (อ้วนขึ้นมา ‘have put on weight’, ทำงานมาทั้งวัน ‘have been working all day’).
ไป points away: something lost, gone or continuing from now on (หายไป ‘disappeared’, ลืมไป ‘forgot’). With adjectives it can also mean ‘too’ (แพงไป, TG230).
Examples ตัวอย่างประโยค
- ช่วงนี้อ้วนขึ้นมา
I’ve put on weight lately. - กุญแจหายไปไหน
Where did the keys go? - ขอโทษ ผมลืมไป
Sorry, I forgot. - ต่อไปนี้ผมจะตั้งใจเรียน
From now on, I’ll study hard.
Subtle differences ข้อสังเกต
These uses are idiomatic. Learn them in common combinations: หายไป, ลืมไป, ตายไป, ผ่านไป (passed), ทำงานมา, เรียนมา, ได้ยินมา.
