เพราะ / เพราะว่า
“Because”
Structure โครงสร้าง
- result + เพราะ(ว่า) + reason clause
- … + เพราะ + N (because of …)
- Q: ทำไม … A: เพราะ(ว่า) …
Usage การใช้
เพราะ means ‘because’. The most common order is result first, then เพราะ + reason.
Before a full clause, speakers often say เพราะว่า. Before a noun (‘because of …’), use plain เพราะ.
To put the reason first (‘Because …, so …’), see TG264.
Examples ตัวอย่างประโยค
- วันนี้ไม่ไปเพราะฝนตก
I’m not going today because it’s raining. - ผมเรียนภาษาไทยเพราะอยากคุยกับเพื่อนคนไทย
I study Thai because I want to talk with my Thai friends. - ทำไมมาสาย — เพราะว่ารถติดครับ
Why are you late? Because of the traffic. - งานนี้สำเร็จได้ก็เพราะคุณ
This project succeeded because of you.
Subtle differences ข้อสังเกต
เพราะ is also an adjective meaning ‘melodious’: เพลงนี้เพราะ ‘This song is beautiful.’
Don’t confuse เพราะ (introduces the reason) with เพราะฉะนั้น ‘therefore’ (introduces the result, TG267).
✗ Unnatural: ผมมาสาย เพราะฉะนั้นรถติด
✓ Use instead: ผมมาสายเพราะรถติด (I was late because of the traffic.)
Why: เพราะฉะนั้น means ‘therefore’ and must be followed by the result, not the reason.
