Structure โครงสร้าง
- ทำไม + (S) + ถึง + V ? (why …?)
- ทำไม + (S) + ถึงไม่ + V ? (why didn’t / don’t …?)
Usage การใช้
Adding ถึง after the subject in a ทำไม question makes it more emphatic or puzzled: ‘why (on earth)…?’, ‘how come…?’. The speaker wants to understand a surprising situation.

The subject goes between ทำไม and ถึง.
✗ Unnatural: ทำไมถึงเขาไม่มา
✓ Use instead: ทำไมเขาถึงไม่มา (How come he didn’t come?)
Why: ถึง stands right before the verb, after the subject.
