Usage การใช้
นิดหน่อย means ‘a little, a bit’. Like มาก, it comes after the adjective or verb phrase.
นิดนึง (from นิดหนึ่ง) is the casual spoken form and is very common in requests: รอนิดนึง ‘wait a moment’. เล็กน้อย is the formal written equivalent.
Examples ตัวอย่างประโยค
- ผมพูดภาษาไทยได้นิดหน่อย
I can speak a little Thai. - วันนี้รู้สึกเหนื่อยนิดหน่อย
I feel a bit tired today. - ขอน้ำแข็งเพิ่มนิดนึงได้ไหมครับ
Could I have a bit more ice, please? - รอนิดนึงนะ เดี๋ยวมา
Wait a moment, I’ll be right back.
Subtle differences ข้อสังเกต
Do not confuse นิดหน่อย with หน่อย alone (TG104). After a request verb, หน่อย just makes the request polite (‘please’); it does not mean a small amount. ช่วยหน่อย = ‘Help me, please.’ ช่วยนิดหน่อย = ‘help a little (only a small part)’.
To say ‘not … at all’, Thai uses ไม่ … เลย (สักนิด), not ไม่ … นิดหน่อย.
✗ Unnatural: อาหารนี้นิดหน่อยเผ็ด
✓ Use instead: อาหารนี้เผ็ดนิดหน่อย (This food is a little spicy.)
Why: นิดหน่อย follows the adjective.
✗ Unnatural: ไม่เผ็ดนิดหน่อย
✓ Use instead: ไม่เผ็ดเลยสักนิด (It’s not spicy at all.)
Why: For ‘not at all’ use ไม่ … เลย or ไม่ … เลยสักนิด.
