Structure โครงสร้าง
- S + ต้องการ + N (want, need: formal)
- S + ต้องการ + V (want to, need to: formal)
Usage การใช้
ต้องการ means ‘want, need, require’. It is formal and polite, common in service language, business and writing. It can take a noun or a verb.
In casual speech, use อยาก (+ V), อยากได้ (+ N) or เอา (+ N).

- ต้องการความช่วยเหลือไหมครับ
Do you need any help? - บริษัทต้องการพนักงานขายสองตำแหน่ง
The company is looking for two salespeople. - ท่านต้องการชำระเงินสดหรือบัตรเครดิตคะ
Would you like to pay by cash or credit card? - ผมต้องการเปลี่ยนห้องครับ
I would like to change rooms.
Subtle differences ข้อสังเกต
✗ Unnatural: (to a friend) เย็นนี้ต้องการกินอะไร
✓ Use instead: เย็นนี้อยากกินอะไร (What do you want to eat tonight?)
Why: ต้องการ sounds like a waiter or an official. With friends, use อยาก.
