Structure โครงสร้าง
- A + ต่างจาก + B
- A + กับ + B + ต่างกัน
- A + แตกต่างจาก + B (formal)
- A + ไม่ต่างจาก + B (no different from)
Usage การใช้
ต่าง means ‘different’. Use ต่างจาก + B to compare with B, or put both in the subject and end with ต่างกัน. แตกต่าง is the formal word, and ความแตกต่าง is ‘difference’.

Thai is a little different from Lao. - สองร้านนี้ราคาต่างกันมาก
These two shops’ prices are very different. - นิสัยเขาไม่ต่างจากพ่อเลย
His personality is no different from his father’s. - วัฒนธรรมไทยแตกต่างจากวัฒนธรรมตะวันตกหลายด้าน

Subtle differences ข้อสังเกต
✗ Unnatural: ภาษาไทยต่างกันภาษาลาว
✓ Use instead: ภาษาไทยต่างจากภาษาลาว (Thai is different from Lao.)
Why: With an object, use ต่างจาก. ต่างกัน ends the sentence.
✗ Unnatural: ขอสีต่างได้ไหม
✓ Use instead: ขอสีอื่นได้ไหม (Can I have another colour?)
Why: ‘Another / other’ is อื่น (TG049). ต่าง means ‘different (from each other)’.
