Time word position

Time words go at start or end of the sentence

Structure โครงสร้าง

  • time word + S + V (+ O)
  • S + V (+ O) + time word
  • S + จะ + V + time word (future)

Usage การใช้

Time words such as วันนี้, พรุ่งนี้, เมื่อวาน, ตอนเช้า go either at the start or at the end of the sentence. They never sit between the verb and its object. Because Thai verbs don’t change for tense, time words are the main way to show when something happens (TG119).

Examples ตัวอย่างประโยค

  1. พรุ่งนี้ผมว่าง
    I’m free tomorrow.
  2. ผมไปทำงานทุกวัน
I go to work every day.
  3. เมื่อวานฝนตกหนัก
    It rained heavily yesterday.
  4. เราจะเจอกันตอนเย็น
    We’ll meet in the evening.

Subtle differences ข้อสังเกต

✗ Unnatural: ผมกินพรุ่งนี้ข้าวที่บ้าน

✓ Use instead: พรุ่งนี้ผมกินข้าวที่บ้าน (I’ll eat at home tomorrow.)

Why: A time word cannot split the verb from its object. Put it at the start or the end.
