“Should” (advice)
Structure โครงสร้าง
- S + ควร(จะ) + V (should)
- S + ไม่ควร + V (shouldn’t)
- ควรจะ + V + ตั้งนานแล้ว (should have … long ago)
Usage การใช้
ควร before a verb gives advice or a recommendation: ‘should, ought to’. ควรจะ means the same and is common in speech. It is neutral to formal.

- คุณควรพักผ่อน
You should rest. - เราไม่ควรทิ้งขยะลงแม่น้ำ
We shouldn’t throw rubbish into the river. - ควรจะจองตั๋วล่วงหน้า
You should book tickets in advance. - ผมควรจะบอกคุณตั้งแต่แรก
I should have told you from the start.
Subtle differences ข้อสังเกต
ควร is direct advice. น่าจะ (TG164) is softer and can also mean ‘probably’: คุณน่าจะลองดู ‘You might want to try it.’ ดีกว่า (TG219) is a gentle suggestion.
