Usage การใช้
These express ‘otherwise, or else’: the bad result if the advice is not followed.
ไม่งั้น is the casual spoken form of ไม่อย่างนั้น. มิฉะนั้น is formal and written, as in notices and contracts. เดี๋ยว (TG263) is a softer spoken alternative.
ถ้าไม่ … ก็ … can also mean ‘if not A, then B’, a choice between alternatives.

- รีบไปเถอะ ไม่งั้นจะตกรถ
Hurry up, or we’ll miss the bus. - ใส่เสื้อกันหนาวด้วย ไม่อย่างนั้นจะไม่สบาย
Wear a jacket, otherwise you’ll get sick. - ถ้าไม่รีบก็ไม่ทัน
If we don’t hurry, we won’t make it. - กรุณาชำระเงินภายในวันนี้ มิฉะนั้นจะถูกตัดไฟ
Please pay today; otherwise your electricity will be cut off.
Subtle differences ข้อสังเกต
✗ Unnatural: รีบกินสิ มิฉะนั้นจะเย็น (at the dinner table)
✓ Use instead: รีบกินสิ ไม่งั้นจะเย็นหมด / รีบกินสิ เดี๋ยวเย็นหมด (Eat up, or it’ll get cold.)
Why: มิฉะนั้น is written, legal-sounding Thai. At home use ไม่งั้น or เดี๋ยว.
