Examples ตัวอย่างประโยค
- ว่ายน้ำเป็นไหม
Do you know how to swim? - ผมขับรถไม่เป็น
I can’t drive. (never learned) - แม่ทำอาหารไทยเป็นหลายอย่าง
Mum knows how to cook lots of Thai dishes. - เล่นกีตาร์เป็นไหม
Can you play the guitar?
Subtle differences ข้อสังเกต
เป็น (have learned the skill) vs ได้ (can, possible, TG154): ผมขับรถเป็น แต่วันนี้ขับไม่ได้ เพราะดื่มเหล้า ‘I know how to drive, but I can’t drive today because I’ve been drinking.’
- For languages, ได้ is the usual choice: ผมพูดภาษาไทยได้. You will also hear พูดภาษาไทยเป็น in casual speech, especially for a language someone has learned to some degree, so it is not wrong, just less common.
