Usage การใช้
หลาย means ‘several, many’. Like numbers, it is followed by a classifier: เพื่อนหลายคน ‘many friends’. It suggests a fair number, more than two or three.

- ผมมีเพื่อนหลายคน
I have many friends. - เขาไปญี่ปุ่นมาหลายครั้งแล้ว
He’s been to Japan several times. - ร้านนี้มีอาหารหลายอย่าง
This restaurant has many kinds of food. - ไม่ได้เจอกันหลายปี
We haven’t seen each other for years.
Subtle differences ข้อสังเกต
หลาย vs เยอะ / มาก: หลาย takes a classifier and counts items; เยอะ / มาก describe a large amount and go after the noun without a classifier: เพื่อนเยอะ ‘lots of friends’.
✗ Unnatural: ผมมีหลายเพื่อน
✓ Use instead: ผมมีเพื่อนหลายคน (I have many friends.)
Why: หลาย works like a number: noun + หลาย + classifier.
