Structure โครงสร้าง
- S + ต้อง + V (must, have to)
- S + ไม่ต้อง + V (don’t have to: TG090)
- ต้อง + V + แน่ ๆ (must be, surely)
Usage การใช้
ต้อง before a verb means ‘must, have to’: an obligation or necessity. ไม่ต้อง is ‘don’t have to’, not ‘must not’.
It can also express strong certainty: ต้องเป็นเขาแน่ ๆ ‘It must be him.’
Examples ตัวอย่างประโยค
- ต้องไปทำงาน
I have to go to work. - คุณต้องกินยาวันละสามครั้ง
You must take the medicine three times a day. - พรุ่งนี้ไม่ต้องมาเช้า
You don’t have to come early tomorrow. - เสียงนี้ต้องเป็นแม่แน่ ๆ
That voice must be Mum’s.
Subtle differences ข้อสังเกต
‘Must not’ is ห้าม or อย่า (TG088, TG089), not ไม่ต้อง.
ต้อง vs ควร (TG156): ต้อง is obligation (‘must’); ควร is advice (‘should’).
