กับ (with)

“With, together with”

Structure โครงสร้าง

  • V + กับ + person (with, together with)
  • A + กับ + B (A and B)
  • พูด / บอก + กับ + person (to)

Usage การใช้

กับ means ‘with’: doing something together with someone. It also joins two nouns (‘A and B’), and marks the person you speak to: พูดกับเขา ‘talk to him’.

Examples ตัวอย่างประโยค

  1. ผมไปเที่ยวกับเพื่อน
I went on a trip with friends.
  2. ข้าวกับแกงอร่อยมาก
The rice and curry were delicious.
  3. อย่าพูดกับแม่แบบนั้น
Don’t talk to Mum like that.
  4. เขาอยู่กับพ่อแม่
    He lives with his parents.

Subtle differences ข้อสังเกต

  • กับ ‘with (a person)’ vs ด้วย ‘with (a tool)’ (TG207): กินกับเพื่อน ‘eat with friends’, กินด้วยมือ ‘eat with your hands’.
  • ด้วยกัน (TG021) at the end adds ‘together’: ไปกับเพื่อนด้วยกัน is redundant; say ไปด้วยกัน or ไปกับเพื่อน.
