แกล้ง
“Pretend to; do something on purpose to tease”
Structure โครงสร้าง
- แกล้ง + V (do on purpose / pretend)
- แกล้งทำเป็น + V / Adj (pretend to …)
- แกล้ง + person (tease, play tricks on)
Usage การใช้
แกล้ง before a verb means doing something deliberately as a pretence or to tease: แกล้งหลับ ‘pretend to be asleep’. แกล้งทำเป็น is the most common way to say ‘pretend to’.
As a main verb with a person as object, แกล้ง means ‘tease, play tricks on’.
Examples ตัวอย่างประโยค
- เขาแกล้งทำเป็นไม่ได้ยิน
He pretended not to hear. - เธอแกล้งหลับ
She pretended to be asleep. - อย่าแกล้งน้องสิ
Don’t tease your little brother. - พี่ชอบแกล้งซ่อนรองเท้าผม
My older brother likes to hide my shoes to annoy me.
Subtle differences ข้อสังเกต
ทำเป็น alone also means ‘pretend’, and can suggest showing off: ทำเป็นรู้ ‘acts as if he knows’. แกล้ง adds that it’s a deliberate trick.
For a sincere ‘on purpose’ with no pretence or teasing, use ตั้งใจ.
✗ Unnatural: เขาแกล้งมาทำงานแต่เช้าเพื่อเตรียมประชุม
✓ Use instead: เขาตั้งใจมาทำงานแต่เช้าเพื่อเตรียมประชุม (He deliberately came in early to prepare for the meeting.)
Why: แกล้ง implies pretending or teasing. For a genuine intention, use ตั้งใจ.
