Structure โครงสร้าง
- S + อยู่ + (ที่) + place (be located at)
- S + อยู่ + place (live at)
- S + อยู่ (be in, be at home)
Usage การใช้
อยู่ means ‘to be (located) somewhere’ and ‘to live / stay’. It is used for location, not for describing what something is.
ที่ before the place is optional: อยู่(ที่)กรุงเทพฯ.

I live in Bangkok. - ห้องน้ำอยู่ชั้นสอง
The restroom is on the second floor. - คุณสมชายอยู่ไหมครับ

Subtle differences ข้อสังเกต
Location uses อยู่, not เป็น or คือ.
✗ Unnatural: ร้านเป็นข้างโรงแรม
✓ Use instead: ร้านอยู่ข้างโรงแรม (The shop is next to the hotel.)
Why: ‘Be located’ is อยู่.
After a verb, อยู่ means ‘be in the middle of doing’ (TG122).
