Structure โครงสร้าง
- time / condition + S + ถึง(จะ) + V (only then …)
- … + S + จึงจะ + V (formal)
- ต้อง + V + ถึงจะ + V (must … before you can …)
Usage การใช้
ถึงจะ (spoken) and จึงจะ (formal) mean ‘only then, not until’. The condition or time comes first: ‘you have to do X, only then Y’.
Examples ตัวอย่างประโยค
- อีกนานเท่าไรเขาถึงจะมา
How long until he gets here? - ต้องมีบัตรถึงจะเข้าได้
You can only get in with a card. - พรุ่งนี้ถึงจะรู้ผล
We won’t know the result until tomorrow. - ผู้สมัครต้องอายุ 18 ปีขึ้นไปจึงจะมีสิทธิ์
Applicants must be 18 or over to be eligible.
Subtle differences ข้อสังเกต
ถึงจะ puts the condition first; ต่อเมื่อ (TG293) puts it last: เขาจะมาต่อเมื่อคุณมา ≈ คุณต้องมา เขาถึงจะมา.
ถึงจะ … ก็ with ก็ in the second clause means ‘even if’ (TG279): ถึงจะแพงก็ซื้อ.
