ก็ (also, too)
“Also, too, either”
Structure โครงสร้าง
- S + ก็ + V (+ เหมือนกัน) (S too)
- S + ก็ + ไม่ + V + (เหมือนกัน) (S … either)
Usage การใช้
ก็ after the subject and before the verb means ‘too, also’. In negative sentences it means ‘either’. Thai puts the ‘too’ word before the verb, not at the end as English does. เหมือนกัน at the end makes it clearer and more natural.
Compare ด้วย at the end: ผมไปด้วย means ‘I’ll come along (with you)’, whereas ผมก็ไป means ‘I’m going too (like the others)’.
Examples ตัวอย่างประโยค
- ผมก็ชอบเหมือนกัน
I like it too. - ฉันก็ไม่รู้เหมือนกัน
I don’t know either. - ถ้าคุณไป ผมก็ไป
If you go, I’ll go too. - พี่เป็นครู น้องก็เป็นครู
The older sister is a teacher, and the younger one is a teacher too.
Subtle differences ข้อสังเกต
Word order matters. ผมก็ชอบ = ‘I like it too.’ ก็ผมชอบ (นี่) = ‘Well, (it’s) because I like it!’, a defensive justification (TG307).
✗ Unnatural: ผมชอบกาแฟก็
✓ Use instead: ผมก็ชอบกาแฟ(เหมือนกัน) (I like coffee too.)
Why: ก็ goes right after the subject, before the verb.
