ที่สุด

Superlative “the most”

Structure โครงสร้าง

  • (N) + Adj + ที่สุด
  • N + ที่ + Adj + ที่สุด + (ใน + group) (the …-est N)
  • V + (O) + ที่สุด (like … the most)

Usage การใช้

ที่สุด after an adjective or verb makes the superlative: ‘the most, -est’. To limit the group, add ใน + group: เก่งที่สุดในห้อง ‘the best in the class’.

When it describes a noun, use ที่ before the adjective: ภูเขาที่สูงที่สุด ‘the highest mountain’.

In exclamations it simply means ‘extremely’: ดีใจที่สุดเลย ‘I’m so happy!’

Examples ตัวอย่างประโยค

  1. อันนี้ถูกที่สุด
    This one is the cheapest.
  2. เขาเป็นคนที่เก่งที่สุดในห้อง
He’s the smartest person in the class.
  3. ผมชอบทุเรียนที่สุด

  4. ภูเขาที่สูงที่สุดในประเทศไทยคือดอยอินทนนท์

Subtle differences ข้อสังเกต

✗ Unnatural: ที่สุดสวย

✓ Use instead: สวยที่สุด (the most beautiful)

Why: ที่สุด follows the adjective.

✗ Unnatural: เขาเก่งที่สุดห้อง

✓ Use instead: เขาเก่งที่สุดในห้อง (He’s the best in the class.)

Why: The group needs ใน.
