ทัน / ไม่ทัน
“In time / not in time (for)”; ยังไม่ทัน = “hadn't even had time to”
Structure โครงสร้าง
- V + ทัน (+ N) (in time)
- V + ไม่ทัน (+ N) (not in time)
- ยังไม่ทัน + V (+ ก็ …) (hadn’t even … yet)
Usage การใช้
ทัน means ‘in time, keeping up’. After a verb it says whether you made it before it was too late: ไปทันรถไฟ ‘made the train’. ยังไม่ทัน + V means something happened before you even had time to do the action.
Examples ตัวอย่างประโยค
- เราไปไม่ทันรถไฟ
We didn’t make the train in time. - รีบหน่อย เดี๋ยวกินไม่ทัน
Hurry up, or we won’t have time to eat. - เขาพูดเร็วมาก ผมฟังไม่ทัน
He talks so fast I can’t keep up. - ยังไม่ทันพูดจบ เขาก็วางสายแล้ว
Before I’d even finished talking, he hung up.
Subtle differences ข้อสังเกต
- ทัน + N is also used as a verb on its own: ทันเวลา ‘in time’, ไม่ทันเพื่อน ‘can’t keep up with my friends’.
- ไม่ทัน is about time; ไม่ไหว (TG163) is about strength. ทำไม่ทัน ‘can’t finish in time’, ทำไม่ไหว ‘can’t manage it (too hard or tired)’.
