Usage การใช้
ความ makes abstract nouns from adjectives and from verbs of feeling and thinking: สุข ‘happy’ → ความสุข ‘happiness’, รัก ‘love’ → ความรัก ‘love (as a thing)’, คิด ‘think’ → ความคิด ‘idea, thought’.

Subtle differences ข้อสังเกต
✗ Unnatural: ความเดินทางไปญี่ปุ่นสนุกมาก
✓ Use instead: การเดินทางไปญี่ปุ่นสนุกมาก (The trip to Japan was great fun.)
Why: เดินทาง is an action, so it takes การ. ความ is for qualities and feelings.
