ไม่ … นัก
“Not very, not so”; slightly formal
Structure โครงสร้าง
- ไม่ + Adj / V + นัก (not very, not so)
- Adj + นัก (+ ก็ …) (too, so very; mainly in conditions)
Usage การใช้
ไม่ … นัก means ‘not very, not particularly’. It is a little formal or written; in speech, ไม่ค่อย / ไม่ … เท่าไร (TG091) are more common.
Without ไม่, Adj + นัก means ‘too / so very’, especially in conditions and warnings: ถ้าเผ็ดนักก็อย่ากิน ‘If it’s too spicy, don’t eat it.’
Examples ตัวอย่างประโยค
- ผมเคยไป แต่ไม่บ่อยนัก
I’ve been there, but not very often. - ปัญหานี้ไม่ยากนัก
This problem isn’t very difficult. - เขาไม่ค่อยสนใจนัก
He wasn’t particularly interested. - อย่าวิ่งเร็วนัก เดี๋ยวล้ม
Don’t run so fast, or you’ll fall.
Subtle differences ข้อสังเกต
ไม่ … นัก suits writing and careful speech. In a casual chat, ไม่ค่อย … is more natural: ไม่ค่อยยาก ‘not very hard’.
