ไม่ใช่
Negates nouns and identity (“is not”, with คือ/เป็น)
Structure โครงสร้าง
- S + ไม่ใช่ + N (is not)
- ไม่ใช่ (no, that’s not right; answer to ใช่ไหม)
- ไม่ใช่ว่า + clause (it’s not that …)
Usage การใช้
ไม่ใช่ negates nouns and identity: ‘is not, isn’t (the one)’. It is the negative of both คือ and เป็น in identity sentences. On its own it answers a question with ใช่ไหม: ‘No, that’s not right.’
Examples ตัวอย่างประโยค
- นี่ไม่ใช่ของผม
This isn’t mine. - เขาไม่ใช่คนไทย เขาเป็นคนลาว
He isn’t Thai, he’s Lao. - — คุณเป็นนักเรียนใช่ไหม — ไม่ใช่ครับ
You’re a student, right? — No, I’m not. - ไม่ใช่ว่าไม่อยากไปนะ แต่ไม่ว่างจริง ๆ
It’s not that I don’t want to go; I’m really busy.
Subtle differences ข้อสังเกต
ไม่ใช่ vs ไม่ได้เป็น: both negate เป็น. ไม่ใช่ denies identity (‘he’s not the teacher / not a teacher’), and ไม่ได้เป็น denies a role or status (‘he’s not working as a teacher’). เขาไม่ได้เป็นครูแล้ว ‘He’s no longer a teacher.’
✗ Unnatural: นี่ไม่คือของผม
✓ Use instead: นี่ไม่ใช่ของผม (This isn’t mine.)
Why: คือ cannot be negated with ไม่. Its negative is ไม่ใช่.
