“As, according to what”
Structure โครงสร้าง
- V + ตามที่ + clause (in accordance with, as specified)
- V + อย่างที่ + clause (the way that, as)
- อย่างที่ + บอก / รู้ / เห็น + (กัน) (as I said / as you know)
Usage การใช้
ตามที่ means ‘according to, as (specified)’. It is used for following instructions, plans, agreements and rules.
อย่างที่ means ‘as, the way that’. It is used for doing something in the same way, and in set phrases like อย่างที่บอก ‘as I said’ and อย่างที่รู้กัน ‘as we all know’.
ไม่ … อย่างที่คิด means ‘not as (good, easy, …) as one thought’.

Subtle differences ข้อสังเกต
- ตามที่ is about following a source (instructions, a plan, a rule); อย่างที่ is about doing it the same way or referring to what was said. They often overlap: ทำตามที่บอก / ทำอย่างที่บอก are both natural.
- For ‘as far as (I know)’, use เท่าที่ (TG327), not ตามที่.
