สิ / ซิ
Urging or insisting; “go ahead”, “of course”
Structure โครงสร้าง
- V + สิ / ซิ (go ahead, do it)
- statement + สิ (of course, obviously)
Usage การใช้
สิ (also written ซิ) after a verb urges or encourages: ‘go on, go ahead, do it!’. It is friendly, but more insistent than นะ.
After a statement, especially in answers, it means ‘of course!’ or ‘obviously’.
Examples ตัวอย่างประโยค
- ลองชิมสิ อร่อยนะ
Go on, try it. It’s tasty. - นั่งสิครับ
Please, have a seat. - — ไปด้วยกันไหม — ไปสิ
Are you coming? — Of course! - ดูสิ ฝนตกแล้ว
Look! It’s raining.
Subtle differences ข้อสังเกต
สิ can sound impatient if said sharply, as in เร็ว ๆ สิ ‘Hurry up, will you!’. With superiors, a softer request with นะครับ / นะคะ or เชิญ (TG176) is safer.
น่ะสิ after a statement means ‘exactly!’ or ‘that’s just it’: — เขาไม่มาเหรอ — น่ะสิ ‘He didn’t come? — Exactly!’
✗ Unnatural: (to your boss) ส่งรายงานพรุ่งนี้สิครับ
✓ Use instead: ขอส่งรายงานพรุ่งนี้ได้ไหมครับ (Could I hand in the report tomorrow?)
Why: สิ pushes the listener. To a superior it sounds like you are telling them what to do.
